Engadget T-Mobile?

This is either a brilliant April Fools joke or a blatant example of carrier idiocy, both of which I appreciate very much. Engadget, possibly the best blog ever, is reporting that T-Mobile sent them a cease and desist for their use of the color magenta in their logo. They are also claiming that this is not an April Fools joke. I'm leaning towards joke considering how ridiculous this is, but either way I find Engadget's actions quite funny. They have changed their background to magenta and are calling themselves Engadget T-Mobile. Secretly, I hope that T-Mobile really is stupid enough to claim the color magenta as their own. Happy April Fools.

Google not just talking tough

Google has changed the way we live our lives, we being anyone who uses the internet.  I now depend on Google Search, Google Maps, and Gmail as part of my daily life.  I know there are other services out there that perform the same functions, but Google does them simpler, faster, easier and best (in my opinion of course).  I know I am somewhat biased in my love of Google, but I don't think that anyone can really argue Google's great effects.  You could even say that Google has enabled much of the internet with Adwords and Adsense, giving lesser lites a monetization path for their personal expression.  I haven't even mentioned Blogger, Youtube, or any of the other great services in Google's domain.

I am always surprised at the negative responses by industry heavyweights to the clearly awesome announcements of other industry heavyweights.  Remember all the iPhone naysayers?  Now that the smoke has cleared on the OpenSocial and Android bombs, the competition is starting to pipe in.  I really admire Google and take all of their plans seriously, but Mr. Steve Balmer clearly feels differently.  If iPhone could make me never want to touch a Windows Mobile device again, I think Microsoft should fear the threat of another top class player in the mobile space.  Still crossing my fingers on Googletel...

Engadet Burns Fido

Engadget Mobile is my favorite blog next to Guy Kawasaki.  They deliver the most relevant mobile news and are hilarious to boot.  Today's post about Fido's 3G announcement is a perfect example of their genius.  I cede to their brilliance.

"Prepare to feel your carrier-hate well from within."

I love Engadget for injecting wonderful quotes like that into their mobile news. Indeed, carrier-hate is surely warranted in this case, since the FCC is now fast tracking amendments to their open-access policy for the upcoming 700MHz auction, all thanks to the lawyers on retainer to Verizon Wireless. It had looked like the FCC was going to enforce open-access rules for the tasty 700MHz spectrum, giving innovative companies like Apple and Google a shot at next generation wireless networks and services. However, it seems that Verizon's lawsuit, claiming that open-access is unconstitutional, has the spineless FCC looking to protect its auction windfall (estimated at $15billion). Instead of fighting for what is right, the FCC will likely cave. Does this mean that the Carterphone ruling is unconstitutional? Of course not, it means that innovation will be stifled because Verizon is an evil moneybags corporation.

I am now on myspace

I am no stranger to online communities but finally decided to join the big dog and created my profile on myspace. Myspace logoMy new place on myspace is still pretty barren. As I was going about to "hang up" my first picture, a visitor "Sanoe" had already dropped by, requested to be added as a friend, and left a comment "You live close to my home town". Pretty cool! I just got a new "friend" simply because I happen to live in Vancouver. But I am not going to try to compete with Tom who currently has 93 million friends on myspace.
