Symbian Beta Wrap Up

Hello and thank you to all the kind users who gave our Symbian Beta a try and then shared their experiences with us. We used as much of the feedback as we could in the upcoming commercial version and we haven't forgotten the rest. The Symbian Beta phase is now over, making way for the commercial release of our Symbian version next week. Thanks again to all of those who tested our Symbian Beta version, we really appreciate your efforts.

I am also pleased to announce that Darla Mack won the EQO iPod Shuffle for filling out the Symbian Beta Survey. Congratulations Darla, I hope you enjoy your iPod!

The Symbian Beta will still be available for download at the Symbian Beta page and we will still gladly accept all feedback coming our way, but the beta period is officially over. I hope you'll all try our next Symbian version! Please stay tuned.

EQO Symbian Beta is here!

The EQO Symbian Beta is here! This version differs from our J2ME version in that it is built natively for Symbian Series 60 3rd edition phones. The Symbian version offers many improvements over the J2ME version, but is also still a little rough around the edges being a beta and all. Since you are all my great friends, feel free to use my promo code "chrisr" for some extra sign up credit.

Get started on our Symbian Beta page and learn all about it. If you do decide to give the Symbian Beta a try, check out our Symbian Beta Forum for the latest news and bug reports. Users that fill in our Symbian Beta Survey will have a chance to win an EQO iPod Shuffle!

The Windows Mobile Beta has arrived!

I am excited to announce that EQO has released a Windows Mobile Beta application!

Take EQO for a test drive on your Windows Mobile device today. If you are new to EQO, when you create an account and select a Windows Mobile phone you will receive some additional bonus credits for testing the Beta version. Please use them up and let me know what you think of the product! Your feedback will help us to improve.

All Windows Mobile 2003 OS and above Smartphone/non-touchscreen/Standard and Pocket PC/touchscreen/Professional devices are supported by this new release.

Tim McIntyre, Beta Tester of the Month for August / Samsung U600 Now Supported!

Recently I asked those in the EQO community with unsupported phones to let me know if they were interested in testing EQO for us on their handsets. Since then I have received dozens of responses. The majority of the requests that I have received have been for Palm devices. Unfortunately for these rabid Palm fans, we are not planning on supporting any Palm OS devices in the short term future (althoughI can say that we will be supporting Windows Mobile OS Palm devices very soon).

My campaign for more supported phones did have one giant success, largely in part to Tim McIntyre, who never gave up in his testing of EQO on his Samsung U600. For this triumph, Tim will be receiving an EQO prize pack! Congratulations Tim!

Philippe-Henri Bazire--Beta Tester of the Month for June

Yeah, I know it is July--and that it has been July for a quite some time now--but I can't just blow off June. June was an exciting month at EQO. The first month after launching a new product is always a busy time and June was no exception. This first month is always the month were the most bugs are found on any Beta program. This translates into a lot of work for beta testers. Thanks to the efforts of our users, we have fixed a lot of bugs--thanks for the help everybody!

Speaking of EQO users, Philippe-Henri Bazire of Switzerland is probably the hardest working Beta tester we have ever had. He has tried fruitlessly to get EQO on his Nokia 6170. Every time he tries to download the file he gets an error message that says "invalid file type". Are there any Nokia 6170 users out there in EQOland who have advice for Philippe? He would really like to see this work on his 6170.

On the bright side, Philippe has had success with his Nokia 6234. So he has had a taste of what EQO has to offer. For all his hard work, Philippe will be receiving one of the hottest prizes out there--an EQO Prize Pack! Woot!

Beta Tester for the Month of May: Poul Sorensen!

We are happy to announce EQO Communications’ Beta Tester for the Month of May: Poul Sorensen of Denmark!

His efforts have earned him this prestigious award, and for this reason, we have decided to summarize his accomplishments in the form of an … acronym.

P – persevering

To start, in a span of two weeks, Poul has spent over 80 hours and has visited over 100 different homepages and forums in hopes of getting EQO Mobile on his cell phone because T-Mobile currently only provides the Midlet manager 1.0 in there update Rom to MDA PRO (Qtek 9000 and HTC universal). Ten hours of his life went to finding an alternative to the free Midlet from IBM, when he finally bought system tweaks to get command over the installation, and six hours went to reinstalling the whole setup for the program. If that’s not a trooper, I don’t know what is.

O – offers to help anyone and everyone.

Due to his unwavering dedication, Poul has even gone so far as to helping other users discover the benefits of EQO. Recently in the forum, Poul has helped comment on a Request for a bit more "technical" information, and has given his personal testimony of paying only a quarter of what his phone bill used to be thanks to EQO!

U – ultimation.

What does this mean, you ask? Well according to the dictionary definition: Ul`ti*ma"tion\, n. State of being ultimate; that which is ultimate, or final; ultimatum. [R.] --Swift. Enough said.

L – linguist

Not only can this man speak English, but he can also translate German !

Lars Oliver Dam: Beta Tester of the Month--April

Congratulations to Lars Oliver Dam of Brightwater, New Zealand—EQO Communications latest Beta Tester of the Month!

Lars Oliver Dam has been testing out EQO Mobile on his Sharp GX17. Well, maybe testing isn’t quite the right word. Lars Oliver Dam didn’t make it to the testing stage, as he got stuck trying to get EQO mobile on his phone. First off, the text message never arrived on his phone. Secondly, when he tried http://www.eqo.com/a, he got an error that said that the download was too big. What's more, when he tried to Bluetooth the file over to his Sharp, the .jar file was accepted, but the .jad was rejected. Lars has earned this award by keeping a positive attitude while patiently trying every method known to Man for downloading EQO Mobile onto his phone. In the end, we both decided that his mobile phone model could not be supported by this version of EQO Mobile. Personally, I believe that our next release will work on Lars’ phone (because we are adding new and improved methods of download), but we’ll just have to wait and see!

There are hundreds of phones on the market today. At EQO, we can’t possibly test all of these models ourselves. Although I would like to try out every phone, some devices are not accessible or affordable enough for us to get our hands on. This is where the EQO community plays a huge role in our success. Anytime I get a report from a Beta tester claiming success or failure I can either add it to our growing list of supported phones or I can cross it off our wish list. And even though the failures are disappointing to hear about at the time, they are still valuable for the data that they provide to us for future development.

Beta testers needed for new EQO Mobile

We've been working on a new EQO Mobile for, well, ever since the last EQO Mobile came out in October. This EQO Mobile promises to be a vast improvement over the last EQO Mobile. We've scientifically proven that its is no less than 47 times better and you can't argue with science. It is a similar product in terms of core features and if you are a current EQO fan, I promise you will be a future EQO fan. We are now currently looking for beta testers to join our formal beta program and we welcome all interested parties who meet the requirements, which are:

You must have a name and you must tell us that name.
You must reside in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom or the United States.
You must have a mobile phone capable of running J2ME MIDP 2.0 applications.

If you are interested in being one of the select few chosen to get their hands on the new EQO Mobile before anyone else, please send an email to beta@eqo.com providing your name, country, mobile service provider, mobile phone number, mobile phone model, EQO ID (if you have one) and a brief description of why we at EQO should select you for the EQO Mobile beta test program.

Testers on Verizon and Sprint needed for selected models!
