The Straight Goods on EQO

Everyday I tend to see some of the same general questions about our application. This seems like as good a reason as any for me to start a thread on here to help people with some the general information stuff about EQO.

Let me attempt to explain in simple terms how our service works:

•	We support every country in the world for Instant Messaging and International SMS messaging and calling.

• When you make an EQO call, the application will call our local access number nearest to your phone's home area code (or in some countries, our local access number will call you). We will then carry your call over our VoIP network. The duration of your call will be charged as a local call by your mobile carrier. If you are calling a landline or a non-EQO user or an offline EQO user then we will also charge you EQO credits for the duration of the call at our posted rates.

• If you are calling an online EQO user, then we will charge you 50% EQO credits for the call. You will still owe your carrier for a call to our local access number.

•	Instant Messaging is free and will not cost you text messages. Instant Messaging with EQO takes place over the Internet.

•	When you use EQO, you will use Internet data, which your carrier will charge you for at your agreed rate.

Please let me know if I missed anything else!

Sorting Phone book Contacts by PINYIN(Simple Chinese)

Hi,

I use HTC p800 mobile phone. I found that the contacts in my eqo phone book is sorted by a new method which I can't understand. Maybe it is similiar with the order athlete enter the arena Olympics 29. :)

Can you sort it by PINYIN just like windows mobile 5.0? Chinese are familiar with this PINYIN method I think.
Thank you

Why I was deemed to be hostility invitation?

I run the EQO for the first time, and click invite someone. Because the eqo system installed in my Windows mobile is different with windows system in habit. So I select all of my contacts unconsciously. There are 643 contacts in my phone address list, include schoolmates, colleagues, friends,etc..

Then I receive a message that I have reached the max invite number. So I can't invite anyone by email or other mode. Now I found that it is not a good method to invite someone by message, I think email is a good method.

So please DO ONT restrict me to invite my friends to use eqo which is a good tools I think. Please do not hesitate to release me from the restrict.

Best Regards,

Feedbacks on Paying Process

First of all, I need to say that I love using EQO. I wouldn't be paying for it if I didn't. It is now the best alternative for me than Skype or calling cards.

However, the dreadful paying process.

I know people have reflected that not being able to pay on the cell phone is a bummer. I think so too, but this is not about it. This is about the paying process on my desktop.

I always want to pay with my PayPal account as I trust how they handle my financial information. However, when I tried to pay, your website informed me that I cannot pay two EQO accounts with the same PayPal account. I have another phone in China on which I also have EQO installed. Due to your website limitation I cannot use my current account in China. I applied for a new EQO account and bought credits with my PayPal account, and now I cannot purchase credits here in Canada.

I don't know what is the rationale behind one PayPal per EQO account policy. Wouldn't I be happy if somebody else is also paying for me?

Ok, now the only option left for me is credit card, so I clicked in. One of your links on your website directed me to the paying page WITHOUT THE SSL encryption, so potentially all my credit card information can be leaked. You should really do a good job of FORCING your paying page to be shown with SSL. Even if the customer changes the URL and removes the "s" from "https", you should direct him to https. I am really disappointed by the way you ensure the security of your customer's financial information. That's why I chose PayPal in the first place, but you don't even let me do it.

I hope this problem will be fixed as soon as possible. I am a loyal EQO customer, and I wouldn't be typing this if I didn't like your product.

Calling rates

Hello EQO marketing/pricing team,

You have a great product and I love using it. Because I like you guys and want you to do well as a company, I'd like to bring your attention to your calling rates, as compared to competitors. In your highly-competitive business, where people are using your service primarily as a means to save money, there is a high price elasticity of demand, so it's important for you to remain price competitive.

I've been comparing rates for different alternative services for calling from a mobile phone. No two services are identical, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so a direct 1:1 comparison is somewhat impractical. These services, however, can generally be seen as alternatives to EQO.

Also, it would be impractical for me to compare every specific calling scenario here. For example, there may be exceptions for calling from and to different destinations, calling to "in program" subscribers vs calling out. I have not done a 100% complete analysis here, and I have not looked at every competitor, but I have looked at a few competitors at a high level, and here are my overall perceptions.

Most expensive: Truphone (Truphone Anywhere service)
Benefits:
- excellent call quality
- no roaming charges
- well integrated directly into the phone interface
- free local phone number in USA or UK, with free voicemail-to-email
Drawbacks:
- fixed line phone numbers limited to USA and UK

Expensive: EQO (EQO calling service)
Benefits:
- great IM & SMS features
- easy to use, but separate, user interface
- lower calling rates to other EQO members
Drawbacks:
- requires completely separate application with separate GUI

Moderate: Gizmo (Gizmo VoIP service)
Benefits:
- well integrated directly into the phone interface
- also works from PCs & fully integrates
- local fixed phone numbers available in many countries
Drawbacks:
- only works over WiFi

Low priced: Skype (Skype To Go & Skype Mobile services)
Benefits:
- generally very good call quality
- loaded with features and options
Drawbacks:
- Skype-to-go only works in a few countries so far
- On Nokia/Symbian phones, calls not using Skype-to-go only work by using Fring, which has poor call quality

Lowest priced: Rebtel (Rebtel service)
Benefits:
- no software to install
- works on ANY mobile phone (can use from home phone too)
- very simple to use
- FREE mobile-to-mobile calls if both users use Rebtel
Drawbacks:
- no tie into phone's address book, so each contact must be pre-configured on the web site or dialed manually

Overall, EQO has a strong and competitive feature set, but is held back by being one of the higher-priced options. EQO could benefit from decreasing its prices. If EQO could match Rebtel prices, or even come close to matching them (keeping in mind that Rebtel has no client software development expenses, but otherwise operates with positive margins on its calling rates), then EQO could become the hands-down winner in this competitive market.

Best wishes, and I hope you find this helpful.

Troy

Wish List: Sending Text Messages via 'My Account' from PC.....

Would be really useful to have the ability to send text messages (either EQO Message or EQO Out Text) from the 'My Account' area of the website. Sometimes, if I have alot to say, it's easier to type on a full sized keyboard rather than my N95.

Also....

Re: messages, an outbox would be nice, so I could double check what I sent to whom and when. And possibly indication as to whether the message has been read or not? I'm very demanding aren't I lol...

Apologies if this is already covered in another post...I did look! :)

Apart from that am loving what I see!

Automate calling options

After using the service (and comparing to several other services out there), I have a couple of suggestions for you to consider:

Wouldn't it be great (for me and for EQO) if I could just dial the same way all the time? Wouldn't it be great if my phone would automatically and intelligently use (or not use) EQO out, without my manual intervention? Wouldn't it be great if I didn't have to decide when to turn on EQO?

1 - New feature idea: allow me to set some number sequences to always use EQO out, or conversely to set some number sequences to always use direct dial. I have an all-you-can-eat plan to fixed-line phones in a few countries. Therefore, I don't want to use EQO when I call those numbers. But I do want to use EQO out calls to mobile phone in those countries and to all phone numbers in other countries. Therefore I have to always think, should I use EQO or not? Sometimes I forget. As a result, I tend to keep EQO turned off in general, and only turn it on (if I remember) when I want to call mobile phones or phones outside my all-you-can-eat markets. This need-to-remember aspect is bad for me and bad for EQO. If I could just tell the software which calling method to use depending upon the first string of numbers, I could always dial using EQO without the need to think or remember.

2 - New feature idea: integrate the EQO out dialing directly into the operating system. Check out Truphone's implementation on Nokia phones. Play around with it. You'll find that it is nicely integrated directly into the OS (even the new Truphone Anywhere feature, which doesn't use VoIP), such that the user doesn't even notice whether they're using Truphone application or not. They just dial as normal, using their regular integrated address book, and it either automatically selects the dial method (depending upon user settings) or it presents the caller with the option after dialing. This may be more difficult for EQO to implement, because it's OS-specific and less portable. But it's worth taking a look and making an assessment. Integrating (rather than launching a completely independent application) would probably lead to more usage of the EQO out calling features.

[by the way, I'm a consultant in this sector, so feel free to contact me if you're interested.]

Make paying easier

I like your service. However, I use it for business and I can't take the risk of running out of credits in the middle of a call. I try to add more credit to my account, but it makes me wait until it's almost empty before I can (manually) add more credits. Can you please provide a way to either pay monthly (post-pay, subscription, etc.) or to auto top-up? You'd get more of my business if I wasn't afraid of having my call cut off due to using up my credits mid-call. Thanks.

EQO as instant messaging app

Hi,

I am an avid IMer and have used dozens of messengers. I would like to share a few suggestions for the IM part of EQO (Windows Mobile Smartphone):

- when "sign in automatically" is OFF it does not reconnect on network failure. This option should only mean "do not sign in on startup", but if I manually signed in and then lost connection I do not see why I would not want it to reconnect

- An option to display all contacts from all networks in a single list and sort it through. I don't generally care which network this buddy came from and there is just no sense in going into every group and scroll through all contacts just to see who is online

- How do I view contact details? How do I rename a contact?

- have you tried having IM conversations with more than a couple of buddies on EQO? I find myself scrolling through the windows left and right as I can't see who is chatting in this particular window without actually going into the window. Add a caption to the icon with maybe just 2-3 characters of the buddy name - this will be enough to identify each window without switching

- GoogleTalk does not allow signing in with a non @gmail.com email (I am using Google Apps for my domains and hosting my email there). The error is "cannot connect" or something like that which makes me think it tries to connect to the server in the email to instead of always going to gmail.com. An option to specify the Jabber server would be useful as not always the server is the right part of the email

Advanced features:

- Online/Offline notifications - display a notification somehow for a brief period of time when an IM contact goes online or offline (Online is the most useful one). This will allow me not to switch constantly to the contact list view to see who came online recently

- Clickable links in messages - people send me links and I have to explain every time - I am on my phone and the messenger does not support it

- Message history - at least 10 last messages displayed when I open chat with a buddy - would be nice to see where we left off. Full message history may not be that important on a mobile device...

I think the basic features are a must in an IM application, advanced would be very nice to have

Anybody agrees?
Thanks
Art

Add mobile blogging?

This might be out of the scope of the program (for now), but it'd be cool to see a feature that would allow you to add your twitter/livejournal/blogger/whatever other blogging services that are popular and blog from eqo (just adding another tab similar to the IM one would suffice). A character counter would be especially helpful with this.

I'm already enamored with the program because it's basically the best free, multi-protocol client I've seen for a mobile phone - it makes using windows mobile bearable! So thanks for the good work so far.

And...as an aside, I saw a thread asking for a PC version - as long as it felt as lightweight as the phone client, it'd be an awesome idea. I understand the part about it being a bit of a project, though.

Dear Concern,

Good day. How are you? I can not access my EQO account from yesterday. When I am entering my user name & password then reply message shows Sign In failed! This account has been restricted from further use. Please contact support@eqo.com

Please give me feed back how I can use my account. Here I have more than 60 EQO friends. I alwayes worked for ambassador of EQO. I spread about EQO user. Some of my friends do not use EQO. I inspired them for EQO. I create them their account for attractive features of EQO. Now a days they are enjoying it. I invite them and got $1.5 for every successful account. Why I am resticted. Please give me the chance to use EQO & stay in touch with all of my EQO friends & with all of you. Please give me the access to use as early as possible & give me the feed back.

My Account ID: shaheen_uap

Thanks & cheers,
