Getting Connected

You may be confused as to why you can not get connected with EQO Mobile when you were able to download the application? The truth is that an internet connection allowing HTTP and WAP browsing is currently not good enough to use EQO Mobile. EQO Mobile connects to the EQO servers via TCP, meaning that you need a GPRS, 3G, EDGE, 1X, EV/DO, or wifi connection on your mobile to connect with EQO Mobile.

To get your phone properly setup you may want to make use of these resources if you have a Nokia, a Sony Ericsson, or a Blackberry device. If you have a different type of device you'll likely have to call your carrier to get setup or setup your device manually. To setup your device manually you will need the Access Point Name (APN), username, and password for your carrier and service plan, some GPRS APN Settings available here. To enter the settings on your phone you will usually have to create and enable an access point or data account on your phone. Read your phone's manual or search online for instructions if you are up to the challenge. If not into manual setup, contacting your carrier or searching your carrier's website for help is always a safe bet.

Known Issues:

-The T-Mobile T-Zones and Cingular MediaNet plans do not allow EQO Mobile to connect.

-Bell Blackberry phones have the TCP/IP stack removed.

-Nokia Phones will continually prompt users to allow EQO Mobile to send/receive data, to fix this go into your Application Manager and change the network access settings for EQO Mobile to "ask first time only".

Some tips to get you going with EQO Mobile:

1. EQO:

Data Network Error: If you are a getting a "Data Network Error" on your phone it is likely that you do not have a data internet connection (such as GPRS, EDGE, 3G, EV/DO) that allows TCP, which EQO requires. Click here to find out how you can solve your connection problems.

Phone Permission Messages: When you startup EQO Mobile on your phone you'll notice that you are prompted to allow EQO to send/receive data or to access certain addresses. You must always answer yes to these questions as EQO needs to access the internet. You can't make these messages go away since they are built into J2ME, however, you can limit their frequency. On Nokia phones go into the application settings, sometimes called "Application Manager" and set network access to "ask first time only".

2. Skype:

EQO for Skype Plug-in: To use Skype with EQO Mobile you must first have the EQO for Skype Plug-in running and signed in on your computer. Skype must also be running and signed in on your computer as well. This is how EQO lets you use your Skype account on your mobile. If you can't sign in to EQO on your PC or Mac, then EQO is likely being blocked by a firewall. You can find more information here on how to get EQO working.

SkypeOut: Many people are confused as to how EQO Mobile actually works with Skype. EQO Mobile uses SkypeOut to link your mobile into the Skype VoIP network. EQO creates a call between your mobile and computer via SkypeOut and another call between your computer and Skype buddy. This means that you pay for SkypeOut to your mobile phone at your local rate, unless you live in North America where SkypeOut is free. Check out SkypeOut Rates. Data Network Errors

Most commonly if people are having problems with EQO Mobile it's because they are getting a "Data Network Error". The usual culprit here is that users don’t have a properly configured GPRS (or EDGE, 3G, EV/DO) data internet connection on their phone. Most people are confused by this as they can almost always access the internet, but they are likely doing so via a WAP connection. WAP allows you to use mobile browser, but it does not provide the TCP connection that EQO Mobile requires.

As for the access point settings themselves, unfortunately every carrier has its own. The above website lists GPRS settings for various different countries and carriers, if you can not find your carrier on the list then check out your carrier’s website or search the web. You will definitely find the required access point (sometimes called APN) settings if you look hard enough. If you still can’t manage to get connected, then post in the forums or email me. I’ll help you out as soon as I can!

Hi All First of all I already had skype mibile on my cell, but I was hoping for a fast "normal" connection to and from it. It turned out that Y-mobile worldwide is not supplying the midlet maneger 2.0 that is nessary for this. So I have used more that 100 hours, finding a way around it, and I finaly got it to work. Now I am sitting here wunder how does this program get me inexpensive calls? I am locked up on both my computer and my cell, but no instructions how to move forward? looking forward to some help

Unable to enter usernames with underscores on Treo 680

I have a Treo 650 (Sprint) and get the following error when installing from the IBM Java Websphere: "The application descriptor was missing the required MIDlet-Name field" -- Haven't tried installing it from my pc to see if i get the same error. Any ideas?

I just need to clarify exactly what eqo is going to cost me for the following scenarios: Buddy calls me on skype, I take the phone call on my mobile --> I pay skype out rate to my mobile? Crashed With EQO - pc while...

I'm using sony ericsson k800i. I installed both the laterest version of oqe for mobile and plugin for pc. Since i have two computers at home, i can test the connection myself. When i tried to call the skype with oqe mobiles, the pc connected just showed alerts at the same time. then i just pick up the call using my mobile phone... and when i picked the call, my skype-pc just crashed. and my phone showed an "undefined skype error". well..., the problem existed when i used oqemobile to call another pc, it rang for a second and the connection just dropped. my k800i will show a message "underfined skype error". i have read and search through the forum and found many users do experience the same problem. can i ask whether ego developers could provide me a solution..or any new patch for such incident. also i would like to ask why the interface of the website... well i think its hard for me to find the download area.

I am sorry if this has been already resolved elswere. I just installed the skype plugin. I allowed it to use skype like it asked me to. When I put in my ID and Password and click sign in - nothing happens. Screen stays the same with the sign in button still blinking. Any info on this?

Backlight of E61 turns off to any transaction that involves Skype

Logré instalar el software EQO en mi celular pero no puedo establecer conexión. Aparece un mensaje que indica: "Error de datos de la red. Consulta ls FAQ en www.eqo.com para las sugerencias ó contacta al proveedor del servicio respecto a la conexión de datos". El proveedor de la conexión de datos es Telefónica/Movistar y estoy intentando conectarme desde Uruguay. Agradezco su pronta respuesta.

EQO Interface Problem - Cant See Call Option, Incorrect interfaceon BB8100?

Hi I just installed Eqo mobile on my pc and Blackberry 8100. The icon on my pc shows mobile is ocnnected. However, the eqo interface in my balckberry does not look anything like that in the"Getting started" guide - http://www.eqo.com/download_start.php I dont see a call button anywhere. I just see three icons; i) Friends ii) IM Services iii) messages. There is no option to call a friend from my mobile suing skype out. Do I need to install anything else? Is it a problem with the phone? thanks

Problems with Treo 650...on and off!

First of all thanks...long overdue. I have a Treo 650, downloaded and installed everything. Two major problems are occurring... -the conncetion btw my treo and the eqo service is absolutely unstable, and as soon as I exit the application the connection is lost. -I have been able to place calls, but friends have not been able to reach me, the phone does not ring. Can you please help me? Thanks

Hi, I am having some trouble login in to the IMs of MS, Yahoo and Google, although I have been able to do so last week when I installed the program. In fact, I can login with Skype and chat, but the rest just never get connected. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, How often EQO checks whether my contacs are online/offline? I logged on with 192 active contacts and sent/rec'd only ca. 100 letter sentence but it took 39,96 kb. Can You leave EQO on at the "background" so I do not have to log in/out often... Then obviously each contact signing in/out creates a data traffic.. I am using Nokia N93i. How much traffic is actually generated by 1 sent and 1 rec'd letter? BR, Michael Kask

Hi there, I use many j2me applications which consume internet. I also utilize gprs internet from my mobile onto my computer using packet switched connection (gprs modem on my phone). My gprs connection is from Mobilink which provides unlimited internet/mms access from mobile for just Rs. 500 (US$8.3) per month. The speed is very good, more than 56kbps, however edge connectivity is limited. I have tried this setup Mobile Phone > Computer > Skype and i have even tried doing a voice call using skype which is connected to internet using mobile's gprs, and it worked super fine. Furthermore i have tested that all in/outgoing tcp/udp ports are allowed by mobilink gprs. Still unable to connect eqo! Any suggestions, anything else support/specialists need to know from me? thanks Z

"MIDlet thread threw an uncaught exception" Using T-Mobile dash trying to select Skype

I had no luck searching the forums, so here goes. I have a T-Mobile Dash that gives the following error when trying to select Skype from the IM Services list. "MIDlet thread threw an uncaught exception" It then asks if I'd like to close the application. The skype plug-in appears to be running correctly on the PC. It doesn't give any errors and can see the phone when I have EQO running. The problem happens whether I am connected via Wifi or EGDE/GPRS. When creating my account, the Dash wasn't available to pick as my cell phone so I chose what I hoped to be the closest T-Mobile device on the list, the SDAII. Could this be the problem? Thanks Adam

Dial via SMS?

Forgive me if this feature is already in, and I just haven't found it - but I would love to be able to dial a skype call by SMS'sing the number I'd like to dial. This would allow just about any phone to initiate calls via skype, even if they can't run the EQO client on their phone. So, basically, I would send an SMS to EQO that says something like DIAL +1-212-555-5555, and then EQO would create a conference call between my cell phone and the 212-555-5555. Would be great to allow users to make international phone calls from their cell phone for cheap! Anything like that in the works?

Cannot login to MSN account - login timed out

I've been unable to connect to my MSN service. It's definitely not because of case mistakes in my password. I'm able to connect to my AIM account, so it's not EQO itself...any clue? I'm using a Nokia E65.

Cannot call Skype test call

I just installed the mobile client on my Motorola E770v (it's in the supported devices list) and the Skype plug-in on my PC. When I log-in to Skype on the mobile phone, I am able to see all my contacts. When I tried to call Skype test call, the mobile application said something about insufficient funds. Then again and again. Why do I need money to make a test call? I just wanted to see how's this thing working, to check for the quality of the sound and whether I would be able or not to have conversations on Skype through GPRS. Do I need to pay something in order to call my Skype buddies' computers? Thanks.
