sprint treo 650 runs really slow on chat
Submitted by p38 on January 17, 2007 - 6:29pm.
I loaded my Treo 650 to debug a Moto RAZR v3m and contrast compare. The 650 ran but was EXTREMELY slow. I was mainly trying to run the yahoo chat client portions and it was almost unbearable. Are there any settings that can be tweaked to make things run faster. I tried increasing the overall JVM memory settings but still slow. Your observations about EQO Mobile on the Palm are similar to what we've heard from other users--and it is inline with what we expected when we created this version. The only way for us to improve the speed (and therefore, the usability) is to create a native Palm version of EQO Mobile (which is something that we are considering). Hi, Same problem with 700p. it's really unusable at this speed. Perhaps it would have been good to say that palm 650 - 700p are not supported at this time? That would have saved us a lot of time. thanks, re: Sprint Treo 700p unusable - too slowSubmitted by peter on January 19, 2007 - 9:52am.
We originally added Treo support to our Beta release because of the multitude of requests that we received from Palm users. And although the experience has been painful for some of the treo users evaluating our product, other Palm users have found our application useful. We are analyzing all of the feedback that we have received and we are looking for ways to improve our product. Our end goal is to make a product that people will want to use, not a product that will frustrate people. Peter I just ran into EQO today.Submitted by kai4785 on April 13, 2007 - 12:31pm.
I just ran into EQO today. This is amazing software. There's 3 of us that would *really* utilize this software heavily. We are regular users of Skype and IM. We would love to stop having to pay for our Mobile IM services!! Please port this to palm ASAP! This would be amazing! re: I just ran into EQO todaySubmitted by peter on April 13, 2007 - 3:34pm.
Thanks for the kind words. We are still looking into the feasibility of a native Palm version of EQO Mobile. I can say that we are working on a native Windows Mobile version that several Palm users will be able to use on their Windows Mobile Treos. Unfortunately, for the loyal legion of Palm OS users the wait will be a bit longer. Peter Chalk up another interested PalmOS userSubmitted by sfobrian on May 16, 2007 - 8:10am.
Hey Peter- No need for a response, but just wanted to add myself to the list of PalmOS users frustrated by the slow performance and want a native PalmOS app. I know you've heard it before, but it's so slow for me as to be completely unusable. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to use it! Thanks also for the official representation on the forums! Peter is on vacation, lucky guy. Thank you for making your wishes for a native Palm OS client known. We are paying attention and will do our best in the future to satisfy all of our user's needs. I agree that EQO Mobile running in a JVM on the Treo is not at all snappy, but I can offer one tidbit of information that may speed things up a bit. In your Treo Prefs, you should find IBM Java VM under Other. Please make sure double buffering is enabled and that you max out any memory allocations. I hope that helps. Chris |
