Skype support in EQO
Submitted by isabolovic on February 20, 2008 - 5:19am.
Hi all, I have installed EQO on my mobile (cellular) phone and fin it very useful as it supports multiple IMs. But, why you remove Skype support in later versions? OK, I understand that you introduced your own VoIP service, but can you re-implement support for Skype chat? Or, is there some other way to use chat with Skype from EQO? The reason we do not support Skype is that they do not provide a simple interface. While Skype does have an API, their service itself is not open. In the past we had a PC Plug-in, which defeated the concept of mobility. Other companies run server farms hosting skype clients running your account, a costly and insecure method. We currently do not have any plans to support Skype again. I'm sorry to disappoint and I hope you can find the services EQO currently offers useful. I'm puzzled, If Skype doesn't have an open api, how can FRINGE work with pc to mobile voip using Skype? Can't you use the same method Fringe uses to workaround the problem? RE: Regarding Skype apiSubmitted by chris on April 4, 2008 - 10:25am.
The answer to that is, we could, but it isn't worth it. Fring and other mobile services that extend Skype must host a Skype instance on behalf of the user. This means collecting authentication details and building server farms to hose Skype instance. We don't think it is safe or worth while to do this. If Skype releases a new, more flexible API, well then we'll see. Chris |
