Nokia 6120 Classic
Submitted by paolo on September 4, 2007 - 2:47pm.
Here we are again - new phone, new problems. On Three network. No errors Can install EQO no probs but just can't connect. Selecting 3 access point - tried making a new one but still no luck. I've used EQO before on a Nokia 6280 in the same location - outwith the 3G area - without any problems (ok, a few probs but not many). Can still use WAP etc. All I get is 'please stand by while we optimise your connection settings' Any ideas before I totally give up and move to Fring Trackback URL for this post:http://community.eqo.com/trackback/994

Hello, When did you download the file last? We did have some problems with our file provisioning for some of our phone models recently. Maybe you could try downloading the file again. When (if) your phone fails to connect, you should receive a connection error number. If I can get that, I can better diagnose the problem. Cheers, Peter I'm not getting any errors -Submitted by paolo on September 5, 2007 - 5:23am.
I'm not getting any errors - it just times out I've got a feeling it's something to do with Three. Is there a way they can block specific applications? IM+ for Skype Works fine if thats any help. Three offers 'X-Series' packages that includes unlimted Skype. You cannot use the pre-installed Skype unless you sign up. Dont know if thats any help either. Thanks for looking re: I'm not getting any errorsSubmitted by peter on September 5, 2007 - 7:52pm.
I heard other '3' users complain about not being able to connect. I do seem to remember that they use a restrictive proxy to filter out unwanted sites. It could also be a level of access thing. The more that you pay, the more open the internet will be for you. I will do some more digging and see what I can find. I've just signed up to their X-Series Silver package. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers Still no luck I'm afraid ISubmitted by paolo on September 10, 2007 - 4:20am.
Still no luck I'm afraid I get this now - "Connection failure. Please try again" Any ideas? re: Still no luckSubmitted by peter on September 10, 2007 - 2:13pm.
Which access point are you using? What settings do you have for that access point? Cheers, Peter I'm using the '3'accessSubmitted by paolo on September 11, 2007 - 11:22am.
I'm using the '3'access point that's already configured on the phone. I can configure another one called EQO but it's going to need the same settings anyway - does this matter? In the graphic below it would suggest exactly this - name it EQO but use the carriers actual settings
I've tried ticking and unticking the Use TCP option - nothing different - still get "connection failure. Please try again" Fring works - Skype works - IM+ for Skype works. I tried EQO after quiting all of these and restarting the phone. Any ideas? Thanks for your help re: I'm using the 3 accessSubmitted by peter on September 11, 2007 - 1:03pm.
I would only set up another access point if the '3' access point is different from this: APN: three.co.uk, username and password left blank. Do you know what the settings are for the access point that is already stored on your phone? Cheers, Peter The connection setup for 3Submitted by paolo on September 11, 2007 - 2:24pm.
The connection setup for 3 is - Connection name - 3 Data bearer - packet data (you can change this to Data call or High Speed GSM but you must define a dial-up number) Access point name - three.co.uk Username None Prompt password - no Password - blank Authentication - Normal Homepage - http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/HutchKey re: Nokia 6120 ClassicSubmitted by peter on September 14, 2007 - 1:17pm.
Maybe 'three' just wants you to use their sponsored services. The package that you have still seems to be a "limited" internet package. 'Three' uses a restrictive proxy that may be shutting us down. This is why I hate 'Three'. Peter If that is the problem, whySubmitted by paolo on September 14, 2007 - 3:58pm.
If that is the problem, why does everything else I've tried actually work? Take FRING for example - a free service that includes Skype and Skype chat, Google Talk, MSN and SIP services. Also Gizmo, IM+ for Skype - the list goes on. None of these are sponsored services. I've tried using EQO from the outset and believe it can be a good service. Going by Bill Tam's interview on RedHerring.tv, he seems to believe it too! Therefore, don't just say "This is why I hate 'Three'" - do something about it. As for the "limited" package - it's as "limited" as any other package - 'unlimited' as long as you stay within your download limit - fair use policy etc... I'm trying to give you informative feedback so you can maybe find a fix for people on the Three network. I imagine there are quite a few... Can I help?Submitted by billtam on September 15, 2007 - 7:28pm.
Hi Paolo. I saw your post and happen to be in London. I'd like to see if I can help. Would you like to meet up Sun or Mon evening? Cheers PS - Glad you liked the Red Herring video! Hi Bill. That's a verySubmitted by paolo on September 16, 2007 - 11:40am.
Hi Bill. That's a very gracious offer but I'm a bit further North than London I'm afraid - North East Scotland. As I say, I do believe this is a good product and I've recommended it to many people - there just seems to be a few teething problems with it. If it is the network provider that's at fault then maybe just point this out in a sticky on the forum? Good luck Paolo re: if that is the problemSubmitted by peter on September 17, 2007 - 11:28am.
I did have another thought...how did you install EQO on your phone? Did you install via SMS download link, or with your PC or through getjar.com? If you installed the application without the .jad file, you would not have been able to connect no matter what network you are on. Cheers, Peter Thanks for that Peter. I'veSubmitted by paolo on September 17, 2007 - 1:37pm.
Thanks for that Peter. I've alwayd downloaded it from the SMS link. This time, however, I used the manual download option - IT WORKS! Hurrah!! I'm so glad that's sorted. I do prefer EQO to the others. Just a much better interface. Thanks for all your help and feedback. Much appreciated. Paul The same issue with Nokia 6120Submitted by alip81 on January 6, 2008 - 10:38am.
Hi, I have the same issue. I use a valid access point that works for Jimm, Opera mini and other applications, but every time i try to connect with EQO I get error timeout. However, it CAN connect with EQO if i select a WAP access point instead of an internet one! Thanks in advance re: the same issue with nokia 6120Submitted by peter on January 7, 2008 - 5:04pm.
Hi, I will look into why this is happening to you. Who is your operator? Peter |
