N78 connecting Problems (no APN choice available)
Submitted by gregman on June 10, 2008 - 5:56am.
Hi there. Got my N78 yesterday and installed EQO on it. When I enter my Username and password it starts up, shows the contacts and tries to connect. Then it says: "Error connection - please try again. Change APN if prolbem remains" But when I choose "Access Points" in the Options (after I choose "work offline" after the error message") no menu appears to select an APN from. Is this a problem of the N78 or of EQO? My E65 would normally let me choose the connection I wanted to connect with prior to connecting to EQO, but my N78 doens't give me the option. Do i need to set something up with the connections within my phone or is it a compatibility issue? Thx for the reply. Trackback URL for this post:http://community.eqo.com/trackback/1384

This shouldn't be a problem on your new phone...How many access points do you have stored on your N78? Peter One WLAN, one MMS, oneSubmitted by gregman on June 10, 2008 - 12:17pm.
One WLAN, one MMS, one Vodafone WEB (the normal Internet APN) and one Vodafone live. I tried highest priority on Vodafone WEB and also the WLAN, but that didn't change anything. re: One WLAN, one MMS, oneSubmitted by peter on June 10, 2008 - 1:49pm.
Hi, Your set up sounds fine. Do you happen to have any contacts in your phonebook that have long phone numbers (over 25 digits)? I have seen this cause a problem very similar to yours. Peter I'm not sure, if there areSubmitted by gregman on June 11, 2008 - 4:16am.
I'm not sure, if there are any numbers longer than 25 digits. If so, can I disable loading the contact list somehow or do I have to find those numbers and edit them first? I will look it up and give it a try (if I find any long numbers) later tonight. re: I'm not sureSubmitted by peter on June 11, 2008 - 9:29am.
Right now, you will have to find them and edit them first. We do have a fix, but it has not been release yet--probably next week. You could also download the Java version, just go to http://get.eqo.com and then select the N70 version instead. Keep me posted. I checked my contacts in outlook (which I sync with my phone) and couldn't find any number longer than 15 digits. But thanks for trying to help me setting this up. re: I checked my contacts inSubmitted by peter on June 13, 2008 - 2:14pm.
On your N78's application manager, change the frequency on which that Allow Connection message is displayed to "Ask the first time". As for the Symbian version...we are releasing a new version next week--give that a try and see if it fixes your APN problem. Peter Yeah, you're right. I shouldSubmitted by gregman on June 14, 2008 - 6:43am.
Yeah, you're right. I should put it back to "ask the first time". I changed that to give it a try to let EQO choose me a connection. And yes, I will shoot at the new version and see if it helps. Thx a lot! N78 problem.Submitted by chakos on July 3, 2008 - 11:36am.
The same thing happens in my N78 too. EQO doesn't allow me to select the Access Point I want to use and it fails to connect. I have version 1.6.1 installed. Is there a solution to the problem? re: N78 problemSubmitted by peter on July 3, 2008 - 1:15pm.
You are using the Java version of EQO. You need to install the Symbian version. Uninstall EQO from your phone, then go to http://get.eqo.com and download the N78 version of EQO--this will now get you the Symbian version. Please let me know if you have any problems with that. Peter No, I am using the symbianSubmitted by chakos on July 3, 2008 - 1:35pm.
No, I am using the symbian version (sisx file)-maybe I wrote the wrong version number. Anyway I uninstalled and reinstalled the EQO as you suggested but still I can't select the APN. re: No, I am using the symbianSubmitted by peter on July 3, 2008 - 3:11pm.
That is odd--our log says that you have the Java version. It also shows one successful log in for you about 4 hours ago. Did you download the file from get.eqo.com? Maybe you have two accounts and I am looking at the wrong one. Peter Probably because I alsoSubmitted by chakos on July 3, 2008 - 9:16pm.
Probably because I also tried the java versio alongside the symbian one.I have only one account. I downleaded the file from the address you suggested. re: probably because I alsoSubmitted by peter on July 4, 2008 - 3:13pm.
Are you saying that you don't get a list of access points to choose from or that you choose one and then it crashes? Peter In the java version, I getSubmitted by chakos on July 5, 2008 - 7:48am.
In the java version, I get to choose the access point I want to use. In the symbian version, when I enter my user name and password the programm tries to connect without asking which access point I want to use and finally fails giving the message "Error connection - please try again. Change APN if prolbem remains" But when I choose "Access Points" in the Options (after I choose "work offline" after the error message") no menu appears to select an APN from. re: In the java version, I getSubmitted by peter on July 7, 2008 - 2:09pm.
We have had problems similar to this in the past on some phones with our Symbian version--though version 1.6.1 fixes these issues. Are certain that this is the Symbian version that you have? Peter Absolutely - it's the .sisxSubmitted by chakos on July 7, 2008 - 11:18pm.
Absolutely - it's the .sisx version I am using (EQO mobile symbian client build 1.6.1). Maybe it's because the N78 is a FP2 phone and probably it has some minor differences from FP1 phones (even access points are called destinations now). Same Problem here, no connection, no AP choosable on my N78 :( re: Same Problem here, noSubmitted by peter on July 10, 2008 - 12:56pm.
If either of you two can email me your IMEI (at peter@eqo.com) I can work on getting you a custom build to see if we can solve this problem. Thanks, Peter You've got mail ;) Thank youSubmitted by ace_79 on July 10, 2008 - 9:49pm.
You've got mail ;) Thank you for working on this special little problem :) re: You've got mail ;) Thank youSubmitted by peter on September 17, 2008 - 1:39pm.
I believe that this issue has finally been fixed. I have tested this on an N78 in our office. Please go to http://get.eqo.com on your phone to download the latest version of EQO (v. 1.6.3) and test it out. Thanks for your patience! Peter |
