International Roaming / Local Number
Submitted by dgmorland on May 4, 2008 - 3:32pm.
Hi Can you please confirm if my understanding of how the service works in relation to incoming calls in the following situations? It seems like EQO would be good for saving money while travelling if I install a SIM for the country I am in but receiving calls to my normal number would involve roaming fees. 1) If I have my regular SIM in the phone and I am in my home-country and someone calls my number, the call is received on my phone and this does not involve EQO at all. 2) If I am travelling overseas and I have NOT activated Travel Mode and still have my home-country SIM card installed in my phone, callers to my home-country number will be forwarded to me without involving EQO and I will be paying my home-carriers international roaming fee. If I use EQO to make a call while overseas, I will be making a call back to the 'local' access number for EQO in my home-country and I will be paying my carrier's roaming fee for this call from my current location back to my home-location. 3) If I am travelling overseas and I have activated Travel Mode and inserted a SIM card for the country I am in, callers to my home-country number will not be received as the SIM for that number is not installed. Before leaving the home-country I could set up call forward for my home-country number to the number on the SIM card I am inserting while I am away but I would be paying international roaming fees for when my home-carrier forwards any call to my temporary international number. Hi, Your summary of EQO and the Travel mode is correct. If you use Travel mode with your regular SIM, you will still incur roaming charges. What you do save on is the international long distance portion of any outbound calls that you make. In my opinion, the cheapest way for travelers to save money, is to purchase a prepaid SIM in the country you are traveling to and use that in conjunction with EQO. Peter |
