Installing EQO Mobile Onto Cingular Nokia E62

Thank you kind sir for your industrious research and efforts. Users should note that the above steps may or may not be legal, depending on legislation in your particular area. As well, flashing your phone ROM and tricking the Nokia Software Update service will most definitely void your warranty. Users be warned and don't blame us if your beloved E62 turns into a brick.

If you decide that this unbranded version of the E62 is not for you can always flash back to the Cingular Firmware by using the code 0530924. just repeat the process and use that code and it will flash you back to cingular Firmware

AND ANOTHER THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its a good idea to write down all of the access points properties(dont forget there is adv. configs also in the access points), so just in case they are not there when you reflash you can simply re-input them.

there is a faster way to recover your access points if they become misplaced, do this through you phone when it is reflashed.

menu >configure >Sett. Wiz> operator>

- click country/region and select UK, then go back and select US (This refreshes the operator list)

- select cingular as operator

- Option > Ok

then let it do its thing, it should have added MediaNet, and Cingular MMS access points.

I'm glad you are so freakin excited, this is good news for those astute enough to follow the steps and take the risk with their phone. But thank EQO user 'drivethrurec' for finding the steps on the Cingular forums, for I did not post the original instructions. He is the man, not me!

First of all thanks for this wondeful post. This is exactly what i was looking for
1) updated phone with code 0524513 using "NSS 1.0.38.7"
2) *#7370# comleted and restared using the lock
code "12345"
the firware is still the freaking cingualr one

3) when i try to update with "NSU Ver 1.2.30" it does not update the phone firmware (but identifies Nokia e62 RM88)

"No software updates available for your phone"
"there is no software update available for your phone"
All i have is try again or cancel option

I've disabled windows xp firewall and anti-virus before running any of the above

Can somebody post the firmware file for non-branded E62?

I understand that supplying the nokia firmware file or troubleshooting is not expected

My specific question was why nokia NSU does not update the firmware Are there additions steps involved or am I missing anything

Newer Nokia NSU does not re-flash phones anymore :-(

That's a shame, looks like Nokia caught on to people fiddling with their Update Service. I'm sure something else will arise for those who keep at it. I wish you the best of luck, sorry I can't be of much help.

Is there a signed "eqo.jar or .jad file". May be this is what is accepted by Cingular branded Nokia E62. i tried downloading but the SMS message has only .jad file (may be there are instructions within jad to grab the .jar file)

I tried to download 2 other similar applications, like mig33 and it just installs fine the .jar or .jad file

if the file is not signed, there is a constant annoying pop-up asking "do you want to allow connection", BUT if the file is singed we can make it ask only at the first time if i saw the options correct on my Nokia E62

There are various signed versions of EQO Mobile and we've tested them against the Cingular branded E62. Sadly, carriers in general are not that stupid (unless it comes to customer service), you have to get signed through them. I'm sorry to say that unless you update your firmware, you're out of luck.
