How to change your Internet Connection Settings (Sony-Ericsson)

Sometimes mobile phone carriers automatically set up your phone's access point to the Internet, and sometimes you have to do this manually. This is not a fun thing to do without instructions. Here are my instructions for the Sony-Ericsson K800 (these steps can be easily adapted to most Sony-Ericsson phones):

How to change your Internet Connection Settings (Sony-Ericsson):

1)From the Menu screen select Settings.
2)Select Connectivity.
3)Select Data comm.
4)Select Data accounts.
5)Select New account.
6)Select Add, and then select GPRS data.
7)Finally, you will be able to enter the name of your carrier and the rest of the important details*:
1. Carrier Name:
2. APN:
3. User ID:
4. Password:

8) After you have created the connection, select Internet settings from the Connectivity screen.

9) Then select Internet profiles, highlight your carrier, and then select more.

10) Select settings, and then make sure that your device is set to Connect using your carrier.

 

In the Sony Ericsson connection settings, there are also sometimes Java specific settings. You might want to check for this and make sure your Java settings are set to use the correct internet profile.

Try going to http://get.eqo.com and download the Sony Ericsson J300 version of EQO instead.

To do this, sign in to www.eqo.com and then select "Account Settings". Then change your phone model.

A quick way round SE connection problems?

I've just got a SE W890 on Voda UK and couldn't get Eqo to work on it, however I discovered that with some SE models at least there is a way round it without getting confused with manually entering Internet settings:

* Make sure you install BOTH .jar and .jad files onto your phone (If it doesn't download OTA, then download to your PC, and transfer both these files to your phone from your computer).

* On the W890 and probably other SE models, under Internet Settings you can choose "Contract (Or PAYG) WAP" and "Contract (Or PAYG) Internet".

On Voda UK, Live is accessed by choosing "Contract WAP" (This connects to Voda's GPRS/3G networks).

However, Eqo is only accessed by selecting "Contract Internet" (Also to GPRS/3G I think...).

So now I access the mobile internet via "Contract WAP" and manually select "Contract Internet" when using Eqo.

I asked Voda about this and they said it was simply because Voda doesn't officially support Eqo. All I know is that doing this works.
