EQO as instant messaging app
Submitted by alipatov on May 30, 2008 - 5:27am.
Hi, I am an avid IMer and have used dozens of messengers. I would like to share a few suggestions for the IM part of EQO (Windows Mobile Smartphone): - when "sign in automatically" is OFF it does not reconnect on network failure. This option should only mean "do not sign in on startup", but if I manually signed in and then lost connection I do not see why I would not want it to reconnect - An option to display all contacts from all networks in a single list and sort it through. I don't generally care which network this buddy came from and there is just no sense in going into every group and scroll through all contacts just to see who is online - How do I view contact details? How do I rename a contact? - have you tried having IM conversations with more than a couple of buddies on EQO? I find myself scrolling through the windows left and right as I can't see who is chatting in this particular window without actually going into the window. Add a caption to the icon with maybe just 2-3 characters of the buddy name - this will be enough to identify each window without switching - GoogleTalk does not allow signing in with a non @gmail.com email (I am using Google Apps for my domains and hosting my email there). The error is "cannot connect" or something like that which makes me think it tries to connect to the server in the email to instead of always going to gmail.com. An option to specify the Jabber server would be useful as not always the server is the right part of the email Advanced features: - Online/Offline notifications - display a notification somehow for a brief period of time when an IM contact goes online or offline (Online is the most useful one). This will allow me not to switch constantly to the contact list view to see who came online recently - Clickable links in messages - people send me links and I have to explain every time - I am on my phone and the messenger does not support it - Message history - at least 10 last messages displayed when I open chat with a buddy - would be nice to see where we left off. Full message history may not be that important on a mobile device... I think the basic features are a must in an IM application, advanced would be very nice to have Anybody agrees?
