Disconnects every 30 minutes!
Submitted by patowadas on March 26, 2008 - 4:28pm.
Hi, EQO seems to work fine on my BlackBerry 8100 (on O2 UK) except for when I don't use the phone for 30 minutes, EQO disconnects (pops up a message saying it's been idle for 30 minutes and is going to disconnect) until I click on it again. Is there a way to keep it connected all the time? It kind of defies the concept of IM if my contacts can't see me connected. Thanks Trackback URL for this post:http://community.eqo.com/trackback/1321

I'm glad that EQO is working well for you, besides this one problem. We time EQO out after a while for the purposes of saving you data consumption and battery life, but we realize that this isn't optimal for Blackberry users. This is a problem that we are fixing, but thank you for letting us know how you feel! Chris Thanks for letting me know.Submitted by patowadas on March 27, 2008 - 4:11pm.
Thanks for letting me know. Honestly, being on a corporate unlimited data plan, I don't mind about data consumption so I rather not have it disconnecting every 30 minutes. At least make it an option. About battery life, I noticed EQO is quite a vampire so you should do something about it. So far, of all the IMs I've tried, Nimbuzz says doesn't have enough memory and shuts down, MIG33 keeps on crashing and EQO disconnects every 30 minutes. I'm staying with EQO but please do something about that. RE: Thanks for letting me know.Submitted by chris on March 28, 2008 - 9:33am.
Yeah, most Blackberry users don't mind being permanently online. If you check your EQO settings I think you'll find that you are using an HTTP connection instead of TCP. If you switch to TCP battery consumption will go down and you will stay permanently online. Please give that a try and let me know how it goes. Chris Thanks for the reply but ISubmitted by patowadas on May 1, 2008 - 7:49am.
Thanks for the reply but I tried to connect TCP and it doesn't work. It reverts to HTTP. I tried the settings suggested for O2 UK from the sticky post http://community.eqo.com/trackback/623 but no luck. They might be out of date. From your answer above, if I manage to connect TCP, it is not going to disconnect every 30 minutes? Still, updated to version 1.4 hoping that the time-out feature was disabled (or at least put into the options) and was disappointed. Thanks re: thanks for the replySubmitted by peter on May 1, 2008 - 2:52pm.
Which settings did you try? I can't get your hyperlink to work... Yes, TCP will keep you connected for longer than 30 minutes. Peter Sorry about that. These areSubmitted by patowadas on May 6, 2008 - 7:55am.
Sorry about that. These are the settings: O2 (UK) from net-msn-chat-web-telnet-tcpip-no-bes.html... couldn't find others. re: sorry about thatSubmitted by peter on May 6, 2008 - 10:35am.
Try these settings instead: APN: mobile.o2.co.uk Make sure that you reboot after you enter the settings. Peter Thanks for your help but itSubmitted by patowadas on May 9, 2008 - 6:17am.
Thanks for your help but it didn't work. I changed the settings, reboot the BB, tick the "Use TCP connection" box in EQO, restarted EQO and it seems like it's trying to connect, takes a minute or two and when it finally connects, the "Use TCP connection" box is un-ticked. My guess is that tries TCP and after it fails, it reverts to HTTP. Which means it disconnects every 30 minutes. Is there a way to test if my BB can connect via TCP at all? I wonder if it has something to do with my corporate settings. re: thanks for your help but itSubmitted by peter on May 9, 2008 - 3:38pm.
It very well could be your corporate settings...I don't know enough about this to say with certainty. If I were you, I would ask around on one of the major BlackBerry forums on the internet like (http://www.blackberryforums.com/). I'll have a look myself, but please let me know if you find anything out yourself. Peter |
