Nokia E62 from Cingular

Nokia E62A kind Cingular E62 user called Nokia and they told him that Nokia ships the E62 to Cingular and then Cingular installs their own ROM, which does not allow the installation of unsigned J2ME applications. Unsigned Symbian apps are just fine, but apparently they consider J2ME to be more dangerous? Anyway, I’m not sure what type of signing they are looking for and whether third party signing would be acceptable or only Cingular signed apps are allowed to install. In any case, we might as well try third party signing to see if that will do. We have a Verisign test certificate here that we can use with EQO Mobile and I’m wondering if there are a few Cingular E62 users who’d be willing to try. If you are interested, send me an email to chris@eqo.com and we’ll give it a go. Also, chances are that if you are reading this more than a few days after posting that I’ve already found enough users. Thanks and hopefully we can figure out how to get EQO Mobile onto these phones.

Gotta love the corporate machine

I've been doin research as well recently and finally found this same answer (I haven't checked the site in several days).

In any case, if you need people to test I'd be happy to.

RE: Gotta love the corporate machine

North American carriers are the worst for such things indeed. With Cingular and T-Mobile you can't use EQO Mobile without their top notch data plans ($$$) and Verizon and Bell don't even support third party J2ME. We are doing our best talking to these carriers to make EQO Mobile more accessible and we are doing well, but carriers move slow. In the mean time, thank you for your patience. Also, the Verisign signing had no affect on the Cingular E62, same application error.
