EQO Mobile on Blackberry and Windows Mobile Phones

EQO has just recently released its EQO Mobile J2ME software for Blackberry and Windows Mobile phones as a limited Alpha. The alpha is available by signing up at www.eqo.com and registering your phone the usual way. Please sign up, give it a shot, and let us know how it goes.

Nice application!

Just installed EQO on my BlackBerry 8700. Nice looking application but still a few wonky bits. The "escape" button on the BlackBerry seems to me mapped to a click or selection. Not intuitive for a BB user.

Also I tried to use the call function when connected to Skype. I seem unable to enter a phone number. i would suggest using an editable for field on the screen to make it clear where data entry is to occur.

RE: Nice application!

Thanks for the comments. I'll pass them on to our mobile developers and we'll get some of these things fixed.

Can't exit app

Using the aplha for BlackBerry and when I try to exit, either within the app or to the main window, it crashes and the device does not respond. I have to shut down and restart to regain control of the device. Here's the error message: Uncaught exception: Process EQO(121) killed due to message queue overflow

Thanks.

RE: Nice application!

Okay, for issue #1, we are aware of this and need to fix it. For issue #2, I believe there is an option to "Dial #" in the menu. Can you not see this?

RE: Can't exit app

Does this happen every time you exit EQO Mobile? What OS version do you have running on your Blackberry? I'll let our developers know of this, but it would be good to know these things.

Out of curiosity..

Are there any plans for a Windows Mobile executable version? (Like something you'd install over ActiveSync or straight to your phone with a CAB file sort of thing) I like it so far, though!

RE: Out of curiosity..

Yes there are, but not for a while. Glad you like EQO Mobile as it stands. Are you really using a Voq Pro from Sierra Wireless?

I have too the problem that

I have too the problem that the app stops to respond and on phone power off/power on I get the exception of the overflow.

I seem to experience the same on every popup (for example to try to remove an account from my list). Im running on a 8700g with OS 4.1.0.39

Plus I cant seem to get the skype plugin to work.. sometimes I gdo get the pc icon on green, but on the from eqo home marks being offline (phone does have full tcpip)

Error

When I try to get back in after going back to the main screen on my 7520 I get and Uncaught exception Process EQO(137) killed due to message queue overflow error.

Be nice if you could leave it running with out exiting or going back to the main screen. Might be a memory issue too!

Until you get the errors iron out, stop being able to select a function with only the wheel and allow it to be left running with out windowing(?) to the main screen, I have deleted it.

Looks good and I like all the IM clients but those are glaring issues for me.

RE: I have too the problem that

Okay, thanks for letting me know. This issue has been raised as a bug internally and will be dealt with shortly. We are in the process of getting our hands on an 8700 and the problem will be fixed as soon as we get one in house.

RE: Out of curiosity..

Yeah. Bought it from TigerDirect, I love it.
Also -- quick question, it's perpetually trying to connect. The GPRS icon next to the signal meter is showing, but it just keeps saying "Connecting.. Connecting.." on the top of the J2ME app. Then it tells me there's an update, I go to it in PIE, then it says that my phone isn't loved anymore. :/

RE: Out of curiosity..

That's cool, we thought EQO Mobile wouldn't run on the Voq because of a suspected JVM absence and have recently retracted support. I guess it's all on you to get this phone supported then:) No, EQO is not down. I suspect that you either do not have a TCP capable data internet connection on your phone or EQO Mobile is not able to use it. However, from our server logs, it looks like you are able to connect just fine. Have you had any luck making use of any of EQO's services?

RE: Out of curiosity..

I had it working (actually, yesterday) and the data shouldn't be a problem, I'm on $20 MEdia Net Max 200. However, today it stopped working for some reason. The update page says my phone isn't supported. I've only tried the EQO integrated mobile messaging client and was planning on installing the Skype plugin today.

RE: Out of curiosity..

Ah, the problem could be with MediaNet doing a bit of blocking, but if you had it working before I can't be positive. I know that ISP.Cingular data plans always work. In any case, please try completely restarting your Voq and trying again. It might be an internal error of sorts. I'll request that the Voq be re-supported.

Someone got it working on a BB?

Was wondering if anyone has got the skype plugin working on a BlackBerry 7700g??

RE: Someone got it working on a BB?

The 7700g is not an EQO Mobile supported device. Do you mean the 8700g? If so, then yes, people have used EQO Mobile on this device. If you are having connection problems, make sure your TCP/IP settings are correct or contact your carrier for support.

A good start, but...

I just installed EQO on my T-Mobile Dash (HTC S620).

I like the concept of having a single IM client for all my services, and I think you application had a great deal of potential.

BUT...

(There's always a but)

I get an uncaught exception error when requesting the contact lists from any of my IM services. The midlet continues to run, but I am not able to access any of the IM services after that.

In terms of features, I think it would be wonderful to have a single contact list for all IM services as opposed to one for each service. This is how other multi-IM packages work (Agile, Trillian) and I find is an excellent way to manage communications.

Thanks!
Jim

RE: A good start, but...

It's true Jim, T-Mobile Dash devices have this problem. It's a new JVM and there is a crash when accessing IM services for some reason. We won't be able to fix this until we get our hands on one of the devices. Also, we've done much study in the realm of mobile IM and the next EQO Mobile will have a much improved UI, problem is you may have to wait a while. Thanks for your comments.

Verification Error on Blackberry 8700

I am unable to launch the EQO application on my Blackberry 8700 running on the Verizon network. I signed up yesterday and created a profile for myself with "jwperez" as the user ID. I downloaded the application over the air (at eqo.com/a). During the download I received a warning message about the installation file not being signed (or something like that), but I ignored it and told it to go on with the download. Then when I tried to run it, here's the error message I received:

**********************************
Error starting EQO: Module 'EQO' has
verification error 1688 at offset 048a
**********************************

I have uninstalled & reinstalled at least twice (along with rebooting my phone), but to no avail. I also searched your website and found a post on one of your forums dated 12/21/06 from someone with the exact same error. That person had a Blackberry 7250 from Bell Canada and was told (I think by Chris) that EQO Mobile wouldn't work on that combination of phone/provider. Would the same thing be true of my combination, or are there steps I can take to correct the problem? I went to the "supported phones" page on your website and found that the 8700 is indeed supported, so I think that's ruled out.

I searched some more and came to this page, which tells me I'm supposed to register my phone "the usual way" -- but I can't figure out how to do that, especially considering that the Blackberry isn't even one of the options in the drop-down list on the sign-up page (nor on the "change your phone" page for modifying account after signing up). I found Verizon Wireless listed as an available carrier, but only one phone is listed (the XV6600), which (right or wrong) is what I picked. I couldn't find any Blackberry anywhere. I thought maybe that had something to do with the problem, or maybe the warning message I got during download. Am I doing something wrong? How do I go about "registering your phone the usual way" on your website?

I also sent an abbreviated version of this conplaint via email to "peter@eqo.com" before I found this means of posting comments/complaints. I apologize if that was a breach of protocol, but I really need help. Whatever help or advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

re: verification error on Verizon BlackBerry

Hi Joe,

Change your carrier to Cingular and then select the BlackBerry 8700. Then go to http://www.eqo.com/a, sign in, and download the application from there. Try that out and let me know what happens.

BB 8830 Error 06

I'm running a Blackberry 8830. I've run EQO for a couple of weeks with no problems. All of a sudden I am getting an Error 06 - Exception Code: java.lang.NullPointerException error. I tried to reload EQO, but same results. I tried another Java apps, but everything works fine. I've powered the unit down and back up, but still no luck. I haven't loaded any new applications, so I can't think of anything that I could've done to corrupt EQO. Any ideas how I can get it to work again? Thanks!
